Day of Walk

Im a lazy bum who amounts to nothing and will never achieve anything in life.

Ok not exactly words of wisdom, nor the way i really feel about myself. But it makes me think of what i can be doing with my life. Everyday we drive our cars back and forth and it takes little to no time. Settlers traveled thousands of miles on foot and horse from the east and it took years and years just to get to CA.

Well I'm very organized when it comes to my day to day schedule. Looking over my iCal i see that on friday the only event i have scheduled is pay day at my work. I don't have to work, just go in and pick up my check and then leave. Nothing else is planned for the entire day. No school, no work, no music rehearsal, no nothing.

As a conclusion to my findings, I have decided not to sit on street carnage and facebook all day but to actually go out and look at Long Beach. It's really a beautiful city. But what good is looking at it if you are just going to be sitting in a car. That's why I have decided to walk from El Dorado Park to Portfolio coffee shop on 4th. I know, it's no Lewis and Clark grade hike, but i think this will give me a perfect walk through a good width of Long Beach.

Starting at ElDo, i make my way down Spring and deposit my check from work, make my way down Los Coyotes diag and onto Bellflower and PCH. Then a quick stop at Jamba Juice for a smoothie and a high five from Ryan. Then i walk down lovely 2nd street, followed by a slight left onto Ocean where i will get my best view of.....the ocean. Finally, i will turn onto Junipero, reach 4th, and arrive at my destination of Portfolio. Which of course i will celebrate by enjoying an iced americano and free wifi.

I put my excursion onto Google maps and it told me it'll be 10 miles and take about 3 hours and 20 min. I'll be taking this pretty leisurely so im expecting it'll be about 5 hours. If you noticed, this trip is one way. I don't mind walking home, but im assuming ill be pretty over walking after 5 hours. So if you know me well, and you own a car, expect a call from me in the evening on Friday.

Now, I know people who have biked all of highway 101(pch), or walked to half-dome in Yosemite. But the way i see it, what good is the city you live in if you don't appreciate it in its entirety. Yosemite looks beautiful, and im sure ill see it in person someday, but for now I'm starting small, and a little closer to home.

I'm sure if Lewis and Clark had Google Maps, they would have used it

Consider this my written contract, if i don't do this on friday, please kick me
