So, I am an avid Spotify user. I just put it on at work and let it play all day. I was looking at my top listens and it is very apparent that I enjoy The Vaccines. It's funny that I like them so much since the only reason I turned them on was because Spotify suggested it. Go Spotify.... I'm still not gonna pay for it though. Anyway, back to my point, The Vaccines debut album "What Did You Expect From The Vaccines" is a killer album. I cannot stop listening to it and my 140+ listens on Spotify will prove it. The sound this UK band makes is just beautiful. It's like a mix of Interpol, Mumford and Sons, Neutral Milk Hotel and Millencolin mixed together in one album. The singer has a great voice too which can always make or break a band. It also turns out that they are playing Coachella this year, yet still I'd rather just buy a shirt than die in the desert.

I normally get excited to have my designs printed. I am excited but its more of a feeling of relief for reaching the "design finale". I used to be excited to get the design printed so I could put it on. Now that I'm designing for a company I just have to design a shirt, get a good sample and then send it on its way, hoping it does well out in society like a baby bird leaving the nest.

This one will do well. This is one I thought up myself and executed, a rarity when you design for a clothing company that is named after the owner.

One of my Christmas presents this year was an awesome Pad and Quill phone case. Disguised as a Moleskin notebook, it also offers some good screen protection. Unfortunately upon taking my first picture that needed a flash I found its downfall. The flash hits the wooden part of the case and reflects back into the lens creating a foggy snowstorm of a picture. The photo below shows an example with/without the case.

It's a good case disregarding the flash issue. Luckily I'm not a big fan of using the flash to begin with so I'm sticking with it. They make ones for iPads as well if that's your thing.

Rocketeer Finale

I guess I never posted these photos of my finished Rocketeer helmet. I finished him in June of 2011.

I took the Crayola clayed helmet and started to cover him with spot-putty. I would then sand it down a bit and reapply the putty. As the helmet shaped to what was desired I smoothed it out with finer sandpaper.
After a lot of sanding and turning my hands red, I moved on to painting it.

I started with a base coat of grey primer. I think I did about 4 coats of that in total. Next I painted the outside and inside black. When everything was dry I put the first coat of metallic gold on the helmet to make it look like the gay tin-man. Seeing how lumpy and dented the helmet already looked with the glossy paint, I decided that 'battle-damaged' was the way to go. After numerous coats of the metallic, and a lot of drying, it was time for the details.

The details were pretty easy since it was mostly adding black paint to look like grease, burns or scuffs so making it look 'nice' was not necessary. Before the black paint I added the ends of brads to the outside of the eye holes to look like bolts. When paint time came I grabbed a brush was was soon switching it out for a paper towel to streak the paint. I would muck up the helmet with a lot of black acrylic paint and then wipe it off before it dried, doing small portions at a time. Since I was going with a battle-damaged helmet I started to slice some chunks of spot putty out with an exacto-knife. I would then fill in the cuts with black paint. These photos aren't perfectly lit, but you can see the black scuffs. I made the left side very damaged as if he turned his head from a blast as well as a ricocheted bullet.

I didn't record the final steps of putting in lenses or the inner lining. For the lenses I bought a black tinted motorcycle helmet visor. I cut it to the right shape so it can overlap the helmet. I then placed it in the oven and watched it slowly lose it's shape. I took it out with tongs and then placed it into the helmet and pressed it against the holes. I then adhered it with clear caulk. Unfortunately the oven rippled the tinting a little bit in one of the lenses but it is still ok to look out of. While the lenses dried I added screen material to the vents on the head.

After the lenses and screens were good and dried in place, I used pieces of paper to make a template for sewing. I lined with inside of the helmet with paper and used those stripes to lay a flat model on the ground. I then cut up and old t-shirt in those shapes and sewed them together to make a big pocket. I stuffed the pockets with more fabric and sealed it up. I then took this fabric helmet and applied velcro stripes to the inner helmet and the fabric. This helped to make it stay in place and to be adjustable.

It took over a year to complete, but even with ghetto supplies it worked out, and made a pretty kick ass halloween costume.

I've realized something that I really appreciate about Quentin Tarantino. A lot of movies by other directors have those long shoot outs or those bank robberies etc. containing a large gun battle of some sort. These movies tend to have a main character get shot at some point and have some long drawn out death in which the victim is laying in a friends arms getting something that's bothered them off their chest or asking for forgiveness or a number of other scenarios. Lame. Boring. Unrealistic.

Now as for Mr. Tarantino, he is much more forward in his approach. All of the deaths in his films are just a gun shot and they're dead. Boom. Dead. Slam. Dead. It's easy. His one exception was Reservoir Dogs when Tim Roth gets shot and slowly dies the ENTIRE MOVIE. But see, even when he sticks with the cliches he adds a twist to make it his own thing. But looking back, Vincent on the toilet, Marvin in the car, all of the Reservoir Dogs in the warehouse, Hitler in the theatre and so on and so forth. Every death by QT is, at most, accompanied by only grunts and gurgles.

Bravo Quentin, for using your own brain, and sorry it took me so long to realize.

The Benson Interruption

So Doug Benson has a show called the Doug Benson Interruption. The premise is simple enough, his comedian friends (3 an episode) do their comedy bit as Doug sits to the side and watches. He then interrupts between jokes to comment on what they're saying or just make fun of them some how. I like the show a lot, but it bothers me that they chose that name and premise. The first 2 minutes of the stand-up starts off like Doug is just a heckler with a microphone and it seems like that's what the comedians expect when they come out since most are on the defensive to whatever Doug is saying. 3 to 4 min minutes into the stand-up it just turns into two comedians that are asking each other questions and riffing off of each other. It is like a Chelsea Lately conversation cut down to two comedians and it works well. It's much more enjoyable than the forced bickering at the start of the show. Each comedian ends their set with a Tweet Off where Doug and they read off some of their own past Tweets; also great.

My main point in all of this boils down to the name of the show. Calling it the Interruption only makes the act of Interrupting seem so much more forced. Forced not to just the audience but to the host and guests as well. Although I think they had to figure some sort of premise or the show could never be on the air. Aqua Teen Hunger Force's main pitch was that they were three food items that lived together and got into mischief. No one would go for it so they made them a detective team that solved crimes so they could have an actual story line. Well that idea fizzled off and everyone ended up watching three food items get into mischief like originally intended and it was a hit. I think when stoney baloney Doug Benson walked into the board room and says,
"Yeah, it's a show where I have my comedian friend come on and we just talk about funny stuff."
"Like a talk show?"
"No, like a comedy show."
"Ok.... and then what?"
"I don't know, we read our Tweets?"
It sounds like a disaster on paper/in words, so I'm sure the execs just said "Make some point to it and we'll put it on!" Thusly the Interruption was born.

It's a good show, lots of good comedians on there, but get that Interrupting crap out of there and it's flawless.

Why did Jonah Hex suck so much?

Is it because Megan Fox is in it? Is it because they beat the bad guy pretty easily? Is it because the writing was bad?

No

Jonah Hex sucked for one easy reason. It looked bad. Every camera angle seemed to be so tight that for all we know, every scene could have been shot in someone backyard. There was a handful of shots from a distance, and even then they were dark or soaked in CGI. If you're gonna have a bunch of explosions and good costumes and good make-up and blah blah blah, I think the scenery should be up to par.
There is also the metaphorical sequence when Brolin fights Malkovich in red dirt that slightly resembles the back part of a construction site. My main point, if missed, is it looked like it was shot by a near-sited boy with a bootleg copy of After Effects.

My Beef, with Beef

I am against beef.

I don't care about cows rights or any junk like that, but I've gotten questions as to why I don't eat beef and here are the reasons:

1. By Land - Cows are gross, really. They eat so much food just to get as big as they are, then they shit all over the place. I know manure is good for your grass, but when it sits on the dirt in layer upon layer of more poop it starts to poison the soil and make it unusable.

2. By Sea - After a good rain or enough pee, that depleted soil leaks its doody poison into the nearest water supply.

3. By Air - With all that eating, these cows fart a lot. A whole lot. They spew out gasses like a small car, and with thousands of these beasts standing side to side on big beef farms, the gas can accumulate and create toxic smog. The organic cows that are fed whole grains and fresh vegetables are even worse, with higher amounts of gas tunneling out of their cow holes.

My main idea is to just try and get fewer cows to eat up our world. I have stopped buying beef in hopes to lower the demand and thusly lower the supply. I buy one less steak from a restaurant, they sell one less than normal, they buy one less than normal, the factory makes one less than normal and the cows die at a slower rate, lessening the need for another cow on the farm. That's my idealistic idea of the whole thing and maybe if I do it long it enough it can come to fruition.

Will I eat beef? Of course! Beef is delicious. I mean really, really good. My main goal is to lower the demand. If the beef has been purchased already, then I'm all in. There's nothing I could do to stop the purchase now, might as well join in the fun. But if I'm eating out or planning to make something, I avoid beef as much as possible. Should I just be eating even more beef just so there are less living cows at the present time? No, it's all supply and demand.

Dairy farms are another story, and I don't think being a barista helps the situation either.

Will the world end because we eat cows? No. Will everyone die from poisoned water? No.
All it is, is nasty. Cows are nasty leather bags full of shit that produce some tasty meats at one point in their lives.

I'll stick with my bacon wrapped turkey burger for now, but if you happen to already be throwing an all-you-can-eat steak contest, I'm in.

Is this a combination of History and Mystery? I'm no expert, but I think that things have to be pretty blunt and factual if they are considered History, and pretty mysterious to be considered Mystery. This video reminded me of discussing movie plots with my dad on some short drive somewhere. We put all the different scenarios together and tried to think of a completely new one. Being original is hard.

Based on the song and the lyric by Tom Waits, made with broken stout, gin and vodka bottles on painted wood(spray/acrylic). Glasswork is built into a wooden table I also constructed and covered by a sheet of glass. The table top is roughly 32"x26".

What does a dancing purple dinosaur have in common with a Golden Globe smashing TV show? The cast.

Barney tried to be as politically correct as possible by having wheelchair kid and hearing aid girl join in with the singing and dancing in the tree house and on the playground. Today those kids have grown up and are singing in high school. On Glee they have the wheelchair kid and the flamboyantly gay kid singing for their peers along with mr. misfit and the token fat black girl. Although Glee's formula is more of a "the unpopular kids are cool too" mixture where Barney's was a bit more "everybody's different" since popularity wasn't on every 5 year olds mind. The way it panned out with ages, the kids watching Barney are probably watching Glee now. Timing is everything.

As I pospone doing laundry and testing out possible new beds for myself I have become fixated on a new website/movement. It's called 365 and its whole concept is to encourage an artist to make a new piece of artwork everyday for an entire year while keeping a certain theme. Founder of 365, Noah Scalin, made a skull a day for one year.

It's a pretty unique concept and it is only truly finished after a year has gone by. Im not one to start one of these since who knows if I'd ever actually finish it, I can hardly finish one art project let alone three hundred and sixty five small ones(it seems more epic when I write the number out).

Anyways, it's a cool idea and a lot of neat art pieces, long term and temporary, have come out of it so be sure to check it out.
